WoW Cataclysm Priest Preview

Lets cover the obvious first: Priests will be getting reverse Death Grip! What Priest wouldn't be excited at the possibility of 'Death Gripping' friendly players to them as they see fit. This is far and away the coolest of the new abilities announced so far. The potential applications for this in PvE and PvP are limitless. Someone in your raid standing in fire? No problem! Just Leap of Faith them on out of it. This will also have some obvious and significant PvP implications. Healing to mitigate damage is one thing, but being able to physically remove an ally from harm, particularly from melee damage, is invaluable. I assume that this ability will work on allies that are in crowd control, as Death Grip works on enemies that are presently CC'd, but there is no confirmation on that as of yet.

The other unique abilities seem kind of lackluster in comparison. A buff that increases run speed by 12% (the Rogue, DK, and Paladin equivalents are all 15%) seems kind of lackluster, particularly in view of the fact that Priests spend the majority of their time in snares when they are in danger. The fact that this also does not stack with Inner Fire leads me to believe that this is intended as a PvE ability rather than a PvP one. After all, how often do Priests take damage that is mitigated physically in PvE encounters?

The rest of the changes, with the exception of group Power Word: Shield are somewhat bland and reminiscent of the changes to Resto Shaman. Ie: you'll have to manage your mana better, buffed direct healing, etc. Group PW:S could be incredibly powerful, but exactly how powerful will likely depend on the radius of the area it covers. I expect that it will be similar to how Wild Growth and Circle of Healing currently operate.

The Holy tree seems like it could really use some love as well, but hopefully the mastery bonus to the tree will be more substantial than it sounds!
